Water is the most important nutrient for human beings. It can be found in all our bodily fluids and tissues. It is also a major component of blood, which carries oxygen and nutrients to the cells and removes waste products from them.
The body needs water to carry out many different chemical reactions. For example, it's necessary for digestion, metabolism, and absorption of nutrients from food. In addition to that, water has a cooling effect on the body's temperature-regulating system.
We typically need to drink around 8 glasses of water or other fluids every day to stay hydrated, but in saying that, everybody's needs for water vary depending on factors like our age, size, and how much activity we do.
Finding time to drink 8 glasses of water isn't always easy, especially when we're busy and distracted by other tasks. Some people also find drinking water boring. Hey, that's okay. We're not judgy here. So let's talk about different ways to stay hydrated each day and a few ways to mix things up.
1. Carry a Water Bottle Everywhere
Try to carry a reusable water bottle everywhere with you to always have access to fresh drinking water on hand! Some drink bottles are pretty large and have a measurement to help you track how much you've consumed, especially if you're on the go all day and don't have access to drinking water from the tap.
2. Add a Splash of Fruit Juice or Kombucha to your H2O
I have found that sometimes straight-up water doesn't quite get my tastebuds inspired. If you feel the same, try adding fruit juice or kombucha to your water to add a new taste! A squeeze of fresh lemon, lime, grapefruit, or orange into a glass of water can make water more enjoyable.
3. Mix it up with Some Hot Drinks
Warmed drinks are a great way to stay hydrated, during these winter mornings. It is a fantastic idea to sip piping cups of hot tea, coffee, or delicious hot chocolate while you get ready for work or enjoy your breakfast in the morning. Adding a side of nourishing soup alongside lunch or dinner will keep those fluids up.

4. Start Drinking Before You Get Thirsty
A sign of dehydration is a dry mouth, dry skin, and dark urine. However, it's not always easy to tell if you're dehydrated or not just by looking at your pee colour. If you're not sure if you're hydrated enough, try drinking a glass of water and seeing how you feel after 15 minutes, or try to drink throughout the day regardless of whether you feel thirsty.
5. Drink an entire glass first thing in the morning
Start the day as soon as you wake up with a nice big glass of water! After sleeping for 8 or so hours, no doubt your body is thirsty and needs hydration and nutrition. This regular practice helps get off to a good start for the day.
6. Add Some Bubbles
How about some carbonated water like soda water or natural mineral waters if you're after more variety? Many people like to add a slice of lemon or lime to their beverage when drinking carbonated water. Nothing is stopping you from adding your favourite fruits, even herbs too!
